German Hardware God Roman "der8auer" Hartung recently got a special gadget, Intel vca2 video card, and immediately broke it up. The full name of VCA is " Visual compute accelerator ", which means visual computing accelerator. In other words, it is a video transcoding accelerator card.
Intel VCA video card has only two generations of products. The first generation was released in 2015 and the second generation was born in 2017. It has been discontinued and delisted in 2020.
Intel vca2 is a standard PCIe expansion card with PCIe 3.0 x16 system interface, dual turbofans, equipped with three special Xeon e3-1585l V5 processors , and the power consumption of the whole card is 235w.
The processor adopts 14nm technology, skylake architecture, 4 cores and 8 threads, the main frequency is 3.0-3.8ghz, the integrated iris Pro P580 core graphics card and eDRAM embedded cache, and the thermal design power consumption is 45W.
H. Under the 264 encoding format, it supports up to 44 1080p video streams or 14 4K video streams
Its output interface is also very special. It is not HDMI or DisplayPort, but two RJ-45 network ports.
After disassembly, it can be seen that inside is a dense heat sink and thick heat pipe, covering three Xeon processors arranged in a row, and all of them are packaged on the same substrate with the corresponding chipset**
Each processor also corresponds to two DDR4 SO-DIMM memory sockets, a total of six, with a maximum capacity of 64GB
Three processors are connected to a PLX bridge chip and then connected to the system.
Intel's VCA series products have ended. At present, Intel is using Xe GPU to build a new video transcoding accelerator card, such as DG2 Arctic sound-M, which was shipped in the middle of this year. It is the first in the industry to integrate AV1 encoder and AI analysis computing power 150tops, and supports the synchronous transcoding streaming of 8 4K videos and more than 30 4K videos.
