Croatia was judged to meet the conditions for joining the euro zone next year, and the euro zone is about to usher in its 20th member state. The European Commission said on Wednesday that Croatia, an Adriatic country with a population of 3.9 million, meets the necessary requirements on issues including inflation and public debt and should be allowed to join the euro zone.

"Less than 10 years after joining the EU, Croatia is now ready to join the euro zone," European Commission President von delaine said in a statement. "This will make Croatia's economy stronger and benefit its people, enterprises and society as a whole."
The European Commission said that the governments of other EU countries are expected to make a final decision on this issue in early July. The European Parliament and the European central bank must also be consulted.
