According to the latest canalys data, in the first quarter of 2022, global PC (including tablet) shipments fell by 3% to 118.1 million units. From the first quarter of 2019, the three-year compound annual growth rate is 12%. Tablet PC shipments fell 3% year-on-year to 38.6 million units. Chromebooks fell 60% from the first quarter of 2021 to 4.9 million.
Compared with the first quarter of 2021, global Tablet PC shipments decreased slightly by 3%. First quarter Apple Shipments fell 2% to 14.9 million units worldwide. Samsung's shipments, which ranked second, fell 2% to 7.9 million units. Amazon surpassed Lenovo in third place with a growth rate of 3% when its tablet computers were heavily discounted. After a large number of educational institutions in major markets purchased equipment in the first half of 2021, chromebook shipments decreased by 60% year-on-year to 4.9 million units in the first quarter of 2022. The North American market, which accounts for 72% of global chromebook shipments, fell 64%.
Although Lenovo's shipments fell 63% after the completion of the Giga project in Japan, it still ranks first in the global chromebook market. Acer jumped to the second place in the global market, with shipments falling 21% to 1.1 million units. Dell fell the least among all suppliers. HP's shipments fell the most (82%). ASUS ranked fifth, with shipments down 48%.
In the first quarter of 2022, from the perspective of the entire PC market (including desktops, laptops and tablets), apple shipped 22.3 million units, with an annual growth rate of 1%. Lenovo, which ranked second, fell 12% year-on-year, with global shipments reaching 21.1 million units. HP shipments fell 18% to 15.9 million units, ranking third.
