According to the latest data from canalys, after seven consecutive quarters of growth, in the first quarter of 2022, the shipments of personal computers (including desktops, laptops and workstations) in China fell by 1%, to 11.7 million units, breaking the upward growth momentum.
Desktop computer (including desktop workstation) shipments fell by 11% year-on-year to 3.9 million units. The shipment of notebook computers (including mobile workstations) remained strong, with a year-on-year increase of 6% to 7.7 million units. Following the first three quarters, in the first quarter of 2022, due to the shortage of supply and the weak demand of consumers and enterprises, China's tablet computer market fell again, with shipments falling by 13% to 4.7 million units.
In the first quarter of 2022, affected by the weakness of desktop business (down 16%), Lenovo's shipment grew slowly, reaching 4.3 million units. Nevertheless, Lenovo has expanded its leading edge in China, accounting for 37% of the market share.
Thanks to its strong performance in business and gaming, Dell achieved a growth rate of 7%, and the shipment of personal computers reached 1.4 million units, ranking second.
In the first quarter, only Hewlett Packard fell among all manufacturers. Its PC shipments were slightly less than 1million units, a year-on-year decrease of 14%. Asustek grew 34% year-on-year, ranking fourth, while Huawei replaced Acer with an astonishing growth rate of 66%, ranking fifth. By launching a broader product portfolio, competitive prices and greater marketing efforts, Huawei has fully demonstrated its ambition to seize the market share of personal computers.
