Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong revealed on Tuesday that Boeing had contacted the company to discuss possible compensation for its long delayed delivery of the 777x aircraft. In April this year, Boeing postponed the delivery of the 777x jetliner to 2025, five years later than originally expected, prompting some aircraft leasing companies to question the future prospects of the product.

The US aircraft manufacturer provides two versions of the 777x aircraft, which will not resume production until 2023, which has triggered some speculation that some buyers may cancel orders or purchase Airbus A350 aircraft instead.

Singapore Airlines ordered 31 Boeing 777xs aircraft. Goh Choon Phong said in an interview on Tuesday: "when the delay is foreseen, you can imagine that Boeing will take the initiative to contact us for compensation in advance. Obviously, we hope that Boeing will help us during the transition period to ensure that we can continue to deploy the correct capabilities."

"We are a very important customer of Boeing. I am sure Boeing will tell you," he added, adding that any dialogue between the two sides is confidential. "We discussed the impact of the delay."
