During the Taipei Computer Show (Computex 2022), amd finally unveiled the mystery of the long-awaited new Am5 platform for PC players It can be seen that as the partner of ryzen 7000 series desktop CPU, the company also introduced the x670e for extreme players, the x670 for enthusiasts, and the b650 motherboard chipset for the mainstream market.

As the successor of AM4 platform which has been rooted in the market for many years, the release of Am5 new platform also means that the PC market will usher in the accelerated popularization of PCIe 5.0 bus and ddr5 memory.
Previously, AM4 (PGA 1331) platform accompanied the majority of PC DIY players through the long-term development of Ruilong 1000 ~ Ruilong 5000 series processors. The newly upgraded Am5 (LGA 1718) platform has finally set up a stage to compete with Intel's competitors.
Many people have complained that AMD's original "cement silicone grease" is easy to "uproot" the CPU when removing the radiator. However, in the Am5 era, you will be more worried that the dense CPU pin contacts on the motherboard are accidentally hit / damaged.
To get back to business, the Am5 platform will come together with the "Zen 4" desktop processor of Ruilong 7000 Series in the initial stage, but it will also expand and support the next generations of ryzen CPU / APU product line in the future.
In terms of function, Am5 platform nominally supports ddr5-5200 memory, while JEDEC sets the starting frequency as ddr5-4800. There are also up to 24 PCIe 5.0 channels, supplemented by additional nvme / PCIe 4.0 and USB 3.2 I / O expansion capabilities (even native USB4).
It is worth mentioning that AMD has introduced a new feature called "extended overclocking profile" (Expo) to enhance the ddr5 memory OC experience on the new platform (similar to the XMP overclocking profile solution led by Intel).
Before the official release of desktop ddr5 memory products, we have experienced the powerful overclocking ability of DDR4 memory module in the "golden age". However, it can be predicted that Am5 is committed to providing a higher level of overclocking compatibility experience than AM4 platform.
It should be noted that, unlike Intel's 12th generation desktop platform (alder Lake CPU + 600 series motherboard), the future oriented Am5 platform will only support ddr5 memory without integrating a downward compatible DDR4 memory controller.
Given that the Am5 launch is mainly aimed at the high-end consumer group, and the ddr5 memory price is rapidly approaching the ideal range, we are not surprised.
At present, the major motherboard manufacturers are actively preparing the supporting amd 600 series motherboards, and the mainstream b650 chipset has not come slowly as in the 500 era (the top of the high-end x570 took a long time to usher in the b550, which is more popular with mainstream players).
First of all, x670e (extreme) is designed for extreme players. It has unparalleled function and overclocking potential, and supports PCIe 5.0 connection of GPU and storage peripherals.
Secondly, the x670 is very similar to it in terms of overclocking and other functional experience, but the motherboard manufacturer can choose whether to introduce support for PCIe 5.0 - although it and x670e adopt the I / O enhancement scheme of dual PCH.
Finally, the b650 will only support PCIe 5.0 storage devices, and it will follow the "single PCH" design - whether there is a "demon board" manufacturer's function to unlock PCIe 5.0 GPU connection remains to be tested.
For core display users, the Ruilong 7000 series Raphael APU will integrate rDNA 2 igpu and can use the onboard HDMI / DP interface for output.
In addition, another feature of AMD AM5600 Series platform is to support the so-called sag smart access storage function.
By introducing support for Microsoft directstorage, developers can fully accelerate GPU's access to game material resources, and it is expected to be widely accepted in the industry in the future.
