On June 7, it was reported that Elon Musk's tough reinstatement policy angered many Tesla employees and prompted them to consider job hopping. At the same time, Amazon, Microsoft and other large technology companies are taking this opportunity to attract Tesla talents. It is reported that many recruiters of technology companies have called Tesla employees who are dissatisfied with the resumption of their posts, including Zafar Choudhury, the head of technology recruitment in the AWS Department of Amazon cloud computing services.
"If the emperor of Mars doesn't want you, I'd be happy to take you to AWS," Chowdhury wrote on LinkedIn, a professional social networking site
He continued: "if you don't like musk's micro management style, come to awsid! We will find you a happy home here, respect you, respect your time and career. We will find you a team that treats you with dignity."
Chowdhury did not respond to a request for comment. Spokesmen for Tesla and Amazon did not comment. It was previously reported that musk had sent multiple emails to Tesla employees, requiring them to work in the office for at least 40 hours a week.
In 2021, Amazon announced that it would allow enterprise employees to work from home indefinitely. It is also one of several technology companies that have changed from an office centered work environment to a decentralized office.
Chowdhury is just one of several recruiters in LinkedIn who have called on Tesla employees to join Amazon and smaller technology companies such as insight and gifow. It is reported that a recruiter from Microsoft also made a similar call.
Tiana watts Porter claimed to be a technology recruiter at Microsoft. In a post that was later deleted, she told Tesla employees that they would get more freedom at Microsoft. Watts Porter did not respond to requests for comment.
Microsoft currently supports mixed office for employees. Last month, the company announced that as long as the approval of the manager is obtained, employees will be allowed to work remotely for more than 50% of the time. Watts Porter wrote, "you can do things your own way and be yourself at Microsoft!"
It is reported that in an email sent to all employees, musk satirized Amazon and other companies that allow employees to work from home. "Of course, some companies don't need to do this, but when was the last time they released a new product? It's obviously been a while," he wrote
Musk seems to have defended his decision to get employees back to the office on twitter, saying that his "ultimatum" is part of an effort to promote equality between factory employees and executives. During the outbreak of the epidemic, Tesla employees were still required to work on site.
Musk's attitude towards telecommuting may hinder Tesla and SpaceX's recruitment efforts. During the "big resignation", telecommuting has become a key benefit.
In March this year, a survey of 3019 employees conducted by blind, an anonymous employee community application, found that 64% of employees in companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google would rather work at home than go to the office with a salary increase of $30000.
Kyyum Kim, co-founder of blind, said: "companies cannot force employees to return to the office, especially when other companies still support telecommuting."
